From pasture to subdivisions.
Prairieville is an unincorporated community in Ascension Parish and a growing bedroom suburb of Baton Rouge. The name comes from the pastures and prairies once visible from Jefferson Highway (LA 73) and Airline Highway, land that has since filled in with neighborhoods, schools and shopping. If it were incorporated, it would be the largest city in the parish.
That growth means a lot of subdivision streets, HOA common areas, new retail and service businesses, and church and school lots, many of them built within the last few decades and now reaching their first round of maintenance.
